You can restore the bookmarks in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).

  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore

Browse to the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop and open the bookmarkbackups folder.

The name of a JSON bookmarks backup file includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

hi shelbaby38, does an update to firefox 43.0.2 help? https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/43.0.2/win32/

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe web sites. Is the problem still there?

Now, how do I get my favorites from the "Old Firefox Data" folder back into the browser?

I have tried to copy my bookmarks etc into the new profile folder, but nothing seems to get hooked up.

The folder marked "Old Firefox Data" contains the data that I want to import, I copy the folder and paste it into the new profile folder and I get nothing when I open Firefox and try to find the bookmarks.

That's because the old profile is in one folder, and you are in a different profile. You did not follow the instructions on this issue.

First; open your file browser to the New profile; Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Second, open another file browser to the Old profile.

Warning ! ! Only Copy the files you are told. Here is the list of files;

cookies: Do not bother. Cookies will be created when you return to the web site. However, you will have to log in everywhere.

extensions(add-ons): it would be better to download them fresh. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ key3.db and logins.json: These are the Password files.

persdict.dat: custom dictionary – words you added to the dictionary

mimeTypes.rdf: What to do with what type of file.

places.sqlite: History and Bookmarks.

prefs.js: Your settings. Note, this may be contaminated.

cert8.db: Stores all your security certificate settings and any SSL certificates you have imported into Firefox. If removed, the file will be replaced. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Copy these files from the old to the new. You will get a message about the files already exist. Choose to over-write for each file.

Thanks for this latest tip. IT WORKED!!!

This was much easier this way than to copying files and then figuring out where to paste.

At least I learned where the shortcuts are and can easily perform this function if necessary.
