I disabled all add-ons and plugins to no resolve I restarted firefox afterward as well.

Ok so you tried safe mode and disabling plugins, what about the other suggestions in the article; then the suggestions in the linked article. Have you searched for the downloads, do you know whether they are not downloading; or whether you just do not see them in the download folder.
