Why does my firefox crash when I'm in the middle of writing an e-mail, and how do I stop it from happening?

It just did it again! How can I write a simple letter if you keep crashing on me? I'm getting very irritated by this.

Hey carolanne7678,

Have you tried starting Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen while you are in Safe Mode, you should read Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems.

There is also a lot of useful stuff in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) Knowledge Base article. If you've recently upgraded, you might want to check out this article as well.

Hopefully this helps!

It crashed in "safe mode" too. I don't understand it. It only crashes while I'm writing e-mails. I get 1/2 way through a letter when Boom! It's gone.

Please provide some Crash Report ID's.

Type about:crashes in the URL bar and hit Enter.

  1. Middle-Click the hyperlinks to bring up each Crash Report page in a new Tab; each page may take a few minutes to load.
  2. Then copy'n'paste the URL of each of those reports into the message box here.
  3. We'll see if we can help you figure out what is causing those crashes to happen.

If you can't open Firefox or keep it open long enough to get the Crash Report ID's, even in the Firefox Safe Mode - see the section entitled - You can't open Firefox because it crashes at startup even in Safe Mode:.
