Hello

I have a problem when restoring the file from one computer to another, when I want to restore it it gives this error "Unable to process the backup file". I have been looking for some program that allows me to unzip or remove the data or repair.

I have consulted many forums and videos and I cannot know if the failure is irreparable or is there any way to get the information I have consulted this page but it does not finish working https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/bookbackreader.html

"File name: bookmarks-2020-07-24_1163_gm8tLHmdNSoVAHsxUPQZAg==.jsonlz4; Size: 137303; last modified 24/7/2020 9:46:12 (failed JSON parsing: SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data)"

Can anybody help me?

thanks,

jscher2000 has a tool on his website to extract out your bookmarks and save them to an HTML-format bookmark export file. If you want to try it, here is the page:

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/bookbackreader.html

To open the bookmarkbackups folder in Finder, use the "Open in Finder" button in the first table on the Troubleshooting Information page, and double-click into bookmarkbackups where you should see several dated files. From there you can drag and drop onto the conversion tool.

To import the HTML file, see the steps in this article: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file.

Hello

Thank you for your answer, all that you tell me and the page, I already provided it before putting the post. The question is whether the file is corrupt. Not only this are several, since they come from another team, which in theory had the same version of firefox. I don't know if there is any "jsonlz4" repair tool. The web cannot do it because it gives an error that I attach in the image.

thanks

I called for more help.

Hi sdiaz.anunzia, judging from the screenshots showing all the 00 boxes, the files looks corrupted. The one in the earlier screenshot has more visible text than the later one, but it's a huge file, so there may be salvageable information in both of them.

Unfortunately, my reader doesn't have a backup method for finding "uri" in the decompressed file and extracting whatever follows. That would at least give you a list of the URLs (without the folder structure or titles, but perhaps better than nothing). Maybe I can add that this weekend.

Meanwhile, can your other team give you an HTML export to work with instead of an automatic JSON backup: Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks.

You can try to repair places.sqlite or the computer where you got this compressed bookmarks.jsonlz4 backup.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
