While browsing Amazon i like to fix the Recommended for me options. However, lately the windows have been opening full-size and I'm forced to resize them; holding shift or control while closing has not fixed the problem. I'm unsure if it's Amazon or Firefox that's at fault here, but its very annoying.

Is it maximized view or full-screen view that you see? If it is full-screen view, you can prevent that from happening with a setting in the about:config window.

full-screen-api.enabled - set to false

That is a good way to prevent some phishing site exploits as well.

It's maximized, though I'll try the thing you said..

Safe Mode has been redesigned to replace individual troubleshooting options with the option to Reset Firefox. I don't want to lose my addons and tab options!

You should still be able to start in Safe mode and won't lose you personal profile data as long as you do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window.
If you delete the localstore.rdf file (or rename to localstore.rdf.sav) then you only lose the toolbar customization.
