What does this here mean ? Here is running TB 118.0b3 :

linux@home ~/Downloads/thunderbird $ ./thunderbird [GFX1-]: vaapitest: ERROR [GFX1-]: vaapitest: VA-API test failed: failed to initialise VAAPI connection.

ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment. ATTENTION: default value of option mesa_glthread overridden by environment.

Is this safe ? What is vaapitest ? and What is VAAPI connection ?

VAAPI (Video Acceleration API) is an open-source library and API specification, which provides access to graphics hardware acceleration capabilities for video processing.

Maybe you have 'hardware acceleration' switched on and it needs to be switched off.

  • Settings > General
  • scroll to the bottom
  • Uncheck: 'Use hardware acceleration when available'
  • Restart Thunderbird.

Hmmm ... this did only help partially :

Error messages output is reduced by half :

linux@home ~/Downloads/thunderbird $ ./thunderbird [GFX1-]: vaapitest: ERROR [GFX1-]: vaapitest: VA-API test failed: failed to initialise VAAPI connection.

... this still appears in terminal at Linux (Solus 4.4).

It's worth checking that they are up to date.
