Widevine CDM doesnt install
Hello!
I'm having an issue with Netflix, i am unable to play anything there at all. It always shows a message saying "firefox is installing components needed to play the audio or video on this page" and refuses to load anything, showing an error, F7701-1003.
After some investigation, i found out that the issue is with Firefox not loading "Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc.". I have seasrched and tried several troubleshooting processes, and was unable to find a solution. Refreshing, reinstalling, manually deleting the profile folder, all fails

Make sure you have the latest Widevine version (4.10.2449.0).
- Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins
You can toggle DRM off/on to see if that makes Firefox (re)load DRM components.
- Settings -> General: Play DRM
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/enable-drm
You can possibly check the XHR requests in the Browser Console if this doesn't work.
> Make sure you have the latest Widevine version (4.10.2449.0). I do not have the latest widevine. It's not even installed. That's literally the issue, it's on the title of my question. Widevine CDM doesnt install. There's a screenshot attached showing what it is stuck as.
> You can toggle DRM off/on to see if that makes Firefox (re)load DRM components. Just did it again, with same results.
> You can possibly check the XHR requests in the Browser Console if this doesn't work. I attached a picture of what the Browser console shows when i try to load netflix.
Can you attach a screenshot from after you toggle DRM 'off' and 'on' again as that should make Firefox request the Widevine module ?
We have seen case where https://redirector.gvt1.com is blocked via the Windows hosts file.
Sure can, it's attached.
As a reference, i also checked Hosts, and the only thing i have in there is the private ip address of a virtual machine i use to work.
Ok, so, i found a way to make it work temporarily. This will work for now, but i fear that this will not allow for updates should the plugin need an update I downloaded the plugin from Mozilla's github by checking the manifest and downloading the version for win-x64, then i added a string on about:config called media.gmp-widevinecdm.version with the version number of widevine.
I tested on a separate computer on my home, and no issues were found. I also tried installing firefox on my virtual machine inside my computer and found the same issue. This likely means that whatever is blocking the instalation is located within my machine.
Windows defender is stopped. No VPN is active. What could be wrong?
The last screenshot you attached doesn't show the requests for the Widevine plugin. You would first have to clear the Browser Console via the trashcan and then toggle DRM off/on to see what requests are send and a possible response and hopefully that will allow to see those requests.
Note that Firefox also comes with a built-in placeholder file of widevinecdm.json
- chrome://global/content/gmp-sources/widevinecdm.json
