I'm uploading changed webpages to the internet on a daily basis, using Firefox. I'm Using Firefox version 100.0 now and I have discoverd a problem with version 100.0 . From Firefox version 99.01 and downwards, this problem never existed before. The refresh button in Firefox 100.0 ( Ctrl+R ) no longer works good anymore! Sometimes it works good, the other time it's not working correct anymore, you will not see the latest uploaded webpage on the internet. The only solution to this problem is bij closing Firefox and restarting it. Only then you will see the latest uploaded webpage on the internet. Please have a serious look at this annoying problem in version 100.0. This problem can only be discoverd by people who are uploading new webpages to the internet, not bij the regular internet-users/visitors.

I'm not the only one who has problems with the refresh-button in Firefox 100.0 I know at least one other person who has exactly the same problem. The problem with the Refresh butten ( or: Ctrl+R ) applies to more websites. I'm using a basic version of Firefox with no special add-ins of extentions, Except the G DATA Plug-in which is my anti-virus plug-in ( www.gdata.nl ). The problem never existed before, only since version 100.0 Further point on interest: I'm Using always firefox with: Never remember history, in the private section: Extra, settings, Privacy & Security ( in left menu ), History ( in middel menu ), Never remember history. Shutting Firefox down and restarting Firefox always solves the page refresh problem. In 40% of the cases, after uploading content to the internet, the refresh-button does not work ( also Ctrl+R ) doesn't work anymore, Repeatingly pressing Ctrl+R does nog solve the problem. Firefox does not show the new uploaded webpage, starting Chrome of Edge shows the page with the new content. Frequently editing small pieces of text uploading to the internet on an simple .html page shows the refresh problem. The websites are not making use of cookies.

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

I'm now using Firefox 100.0.1 which has the same problem as 100.0. I'll try all of your work-arrounds-suggestions and let you know. At this moment I can say that holding down the Shift-button and then pressing the ReLoad button with the left mouse-button solves the problem , without having to close and restart Firefox and the new webpage will show up. I'll let you know if the other work-arround-suggestions will also work.

You have found a good working work-arround-solution. However, the real problem still exists: only pressing the ReLoad button or only pressing Ctrl+R should do the same as the Shift+ReLoad button combination. Then the problem is really solved and that is what everybody expects to see.

Everybody expects to see the latest webpage when pressing the ReLoad button of Ctrl+R. I hope the FireFox team can have an serious look at it and repair the problem. This solves the problem for everybody.

Thanks for your good suggestion. I'm using the G DATA Plug-in for several years now, also in many older versions of Firefox ( below 100.0 ), without any problems. I've got serveral computers and laptops and will try to find out if the G DATA Web-plug-in for Firefox is the cause of the Ctrl+R / ReLoad-button problem. I let you know... G DATA suggests the Plug-in for all of the Chrome, Edge and Firefox users, as soon as G DATA is installed on a Windows-computer, within a few days after the G DATA software installation. G DATA is a German Internet Security program. In practice many users will install the G DATA Plug-in in their Firefox web-browser, sooner or later, when using G DATA. See gdatasoftware.com for more info about G DATA. Personally I'll never remove the G DATA Browser Plug-in on my computer in Firefox or in Chrome or in Edge. In that case the Shift-ReLoad option will solve the problem for me as a good work-arround. G DATA is the only Web-Extention which I'm using in Firefox. If G DATA is the cause, then G DATA has a problem with it's plug-in since Firefox 100.0 No newer version of the G DATA Plug-in was installed, when the problem started.

I have temporary removed the G DATA Firefox extention on 5 other computers ( 2 x Windows 11 and 3 x Windows 10 ) and my temporary conclusion, so far, is that the problem is over. In other words, the problem is not caused by Firefox but probably by the G DATA Firefox-extention, since Firefox 100.0 and 100.0.1 In practice I'm uploading several times a day new content to the internet and because the problem does not appear every time, I can make a better and good conclusion in about a few weeks, having performed many uploads to the internet. The Keyboard combinations: "Ctrl+F5" and "Ctrl + Shift + R" do also work fine and will show the latest content. If the Ctrl+R problem remains, with the G DATA Extention, I'll call the G DATA support-line by phone and explain the problem to them. I will let you know in about two weeks. So far it's seems that the problem is not caused by Firefox. I do not know if the G DATA Plug-in maybe causes the same problem in Chrome or Edge, because I mostly do everything in Firefox, for many years. Firefox 99.0.1 and older versions have never had this problem in combination with the G DATA Extention, so is my experience.

Many thanks for all of your good suggestions and very fast answers.

The "Left-Shift + Reload-button in Firefox" works as expected and will show the latest update of the webpage instantly. This is a very good and easy work-arround. Until G DATA has solved the issue, this will do. I've removed the G DATA Plug-in from Firefox on several of my computers, to see if Firefox really is not the problem and works fine, as concluded so far. In about two weeks I know more and let you know, then I will have made many renewed uploads of webpages on my sites and can make a final conclusion.

I will temporary remove the G DATA Plug-in from my main computer in Firefox 100.0.1 to get a fast answer. Then I will have a Firefox without any extentions. Very soon I will know more.... I believe, it would be a good idea that some other people are also investigating this "Ctrl+R ReLoad-button" problem...

Ctrl+R and F5 merely reload the page, but Firefox may load content from the disk cache and this can cause issues on webpages that load content dynamically. In case you want to make sure to get fresh/updated code you always need to bypass the cache to make this work properly in Firefox, especially with servers that tell the browser to cache content and do not have a Cache-Control: no-cache header or otherwise prevent caching (etag, expire).
