Calendars and Contacts
To access your calendars and contacts on your personal devices, you need to configure your client to connect to CalDAV for calendars and CardDAV for contacts. Use the information below to configure your client.
Note: With this release, we only tested Apple®-distributed clients. These clients natively support CalDAV and CardDAV. If you have other calendar or contacts applications that support those protocols, you may be able to access your calendars and contacts from those applications.

Regarding Thunderbird using CalDAV and CardDAV.
CalDAV 1. From the Calendar tab in Thunderbird, and the top menu bar, select File: New: Calendar (If you cannot see the top menu bar, press the Alt key or F10 key on your keyboard to show it.)
2. In the Create a new calendar/Locate your calendar window, choose On the Network.
3. Select CalDAV, then enter the proper location on the network/Internet.
4. Specify the name of the calendar, the color for it's events, whether to show reminders or not, then the e-mail address you want associated with the calendar.
CardDAV There is a Thunderbird add-on called CardBook, which says that it is "A new Thunderbird address book based on the CardDAV and vCard standards."
I've never used it, but you can give it a try. Installing an Add-on in Thunderbird

Thanks - I used Lightning with Provider for Google Calendar 3.3 and gContactSync. I've yet to finish the setup but all seems to be working thus far.
