I cannot disable search suggestions...it does not matter what search engine I choose Google/Yahoo etc. I uncheck the box for 'show search suggestions' but it reverts back immediately. Also, can not disable search history.

Vald lösning

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

The culprit was the 'Disconnect Search 1.4.1' add on. When I disabled that, problem solved.

Thank you

Edit: This is only a issue with Windows 8.1 I found out....with Windows 7, the add-on works fine.

I followed the accepted solution and I am experiencing the problem still. I do not want search suggestions for myriad reasons, but primarily I expect them to be turned off when I turn them off. This is occurring in Nightly as well as Firefox on two different computers, completely different environments (one is Windows 7 and the other is Windows XP x64.)
