Using the "Block Sender" instructions I have set up this filter. I can add email addresses into the filter, but when I click "run now" nothing happens. I have set this filter up in another email account and it works correctly. Why will it not work in this email account?

As Matt says, it is best to train the Junk filter via Junk Controls to deal with all the general junk. All info at the link provided by Matt.

In addition: I notice that you use the 'Subject' 'Contains' ' email address'. Does the subject usually contain the email address? The 'FROM' 'Contains' ' email address' might be more accurate.

When you set up the filter which option did you choose : 'match all of the following' or 'match any of the following'

If you have one condition: choose: 'match all of the following'

If you have more than one condition and you need all conditions to be true for every email: choose match all of the following

If you have more than one condition and you need any to be true: choose :'match any of the following'

I believe you may have entered more than one condition, but you have selected match all of the following, so if there are two or more email addresses to block senders, the filter will not work as it cannot meet all of the conditions. Change to: :'match any of the following'

I have "match any of the following" chosen. Any other suggestions?

Re: supply image...You do not say why this is not possible. It should be very easy to do.

In which case please type every section - basically, it is impossible to guess what you have written and what options you have selected for every section. So can you tell the forum all the info.

I presume you have enabled the filter. Wherre is the filter positioned in the list?

In the menu...go to message filter screen, the "block e-mail" is checked. Click on edit and the "filters rules" screen appears. Positions checked on "Filters Rules" are

  • manually run
  • getting new mail
  • match any of the following

In the "perform these actions" on the "Filters Rules" screen,

  • delete message ... is the command

So, when I click "OK" on the "filters rules" screen, it takes me back to the "message filter screen". When I click "run now" on the "message filter screen" to filter the inbox...nothing happens.

Check on the first screen that the correct email address is showing. if mail goes to the inbox on "Local Folders" then that is the correct account. Please run after classification and make the action delete and mark as junk. Your current approach gives the junk filter no option to learn what you dislike. That however will not make it run.

You are aware I hope that a spammer only ever uses an email address for a short period of time, and that address usually belongs to some unsuspecting individual like you. Using a block list is really a very time consuming way to achieve very little. please see here for information on SPAM. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls

Thanks Matt, I'll try the SPAM link you provided.

Hey Toad-Hall,

Good eyes. The problem was is the subject line...should have been "From" like you noted. Made the changes and it works great now. Thanks for your help and your's too Matt.
