Since a day or two I have been getting the same error message: "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue."

I am not an IT expert, however I've read similar posts online and tried lots of the suggested steps such as: - deleting browsing history and cookies - resetting Mozilla to factory settings - uninstalling and re-installing Mozilla

Unfortunately, the problem is still the same. What can I do? I work from home and need the internet to work 100%.

By the way, the browsing works fine in other browsers, just not Mozilla.

Thanks

This Error comes when any script running out of control and hang Firefox to do nothing. Possible cause might be Extension, or any script file in webpage , you are accessing or firefox too. If you have Webroot security sweeper install in device then disable cookies features from there. Also Let the script run continuously and check whether the warning stops after some time. if still message persist ,then put about:config in search bar and search dom.max_script_run_time and change the integer value to 20 . It stops the message. For Help : http://mzl.la/LOwPvg

The following two errors came up this morning:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.

Script: http://s1.adform.net/Banners/scripts/rmb/Adform.RMB.js?bv=371:165

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.

Script: http://s248.mxcdn.net/bb-mx/serve/mtrcs_485496.js:120

As said, it's always a different script that seems to be causing the problem.

I tried your suggestion to change the dom.max_script_run_time but the error is still there.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

In some cases, this can be caused by the protected mode feature of the Flash plugin. It has security benefits, but is not compatible with all systems for some reason. You can disable it by creating or editing a settings file.

The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that:

Flash needs to completely unload from memory (exiting and starting Firefox up again might help) before this takes effect.

Any improvement?

Hi Cor-el,

thanks for the additional suggestions. I tried it all but the problem still occurs. It must have to do with Mozilla as surfing is fine in Chrome (a bit slow).

Any further ideas?

Hi jscher 2000,

I followed your suggestions and uninstalled the flashplayer (that's at least what I think I did). It looks like I know have the flashplayer for Chroem but not anymore for Mozilla but surprisingly Mozilla seems to be working.

Thanks

Thanks everybody for your help!!!!

Oops, I must not have described that clearly enough. You probably will need to get the Flash plugin again at some point so hopefully disabling the protected mode will make it work properly the next time around.
