It's possible that a pop-up blocker could be interfering with the window. Firefox's built-in pop-up blocker usually will display a bar just below the address bar when it blocks a pop-up window, giving you the choice to allow pop-up windows in the future, or to just open this one now.

If you are not getting the bar, perhaps you have an add-on that is blocking it? You can review your extensions for a logical culprit on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions.

If you're not sure whether a particular extension is related to pop-up windows, you could click Options to check whether it is mentioned as a feature. Or, if the extension is nonessential or unrecognized, disable it temporarily.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that change the way the site works?

I should have asked first, whether you are clicking a link or button that should open in a new window automatically, or whether you're having a problem with the options Firefox offers for opening a new window. My first reply assumed it was a problem with a regular click on a link or button.

If you have a problem with any of the following, it would be a different issue:

Opening a link in a new window:

  • right-click the link > Open in a New Window
  • Shift+click the link

Opening a new window containing your home page:

  • Ctrl+n
  • File menu > New Window
  • orange Firefox button > New Tab > New Window

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

Is there a page on Weight Watchers where I could see what link it is? If so, it would be really helpful to post the address and mention which one of the links has the problem. I don't have an account, so it would need to be a page where you don't have to log in to see it.

Okay, just so I'm testing the right thing, is there a link on the home page that doesn't work as it should? If the link is on another page, could you give the specific address?

Which link is it and how are you clicking (e.g., regular left-click, Shift+click, right-click>Open in a New Window, etc.)? Thanks.
