SMTP default server settings does not work
Hi guys. I'm using TB 102.1.2 (32-bit) brasilian portuguese version. I have multiply accounts configurated in my TB, derefore, I have more then one SMTP server configurated. I setup the second server as default server (button "set as deault" in SMTP server configuration folder), however, every time I start a new email message, TB selects allways the first SMTP server to send the message. It looks like the default SMTP setting is not recognized by TB and it uses the first SMTP server in the list every time. Thanks for the help and best regards for everyone.

Check which smtp server is assigned to the account. that is shown at tools>settings.accountname. The bottom of that screen will show the assigned smtp server. The default is used only when a specific smtp server is not assigned.
Hi David. Thaks for quick reply. I checked the configuration you mention. It is correct (each account has its own SMTP server configured). I also understood the function of the default SMTP server setting and that it is not applyable to my case. However I still have the same problem. I have more than one email account configured, and all of than have its own SMTP server. When I create a new email message, I want that message to be sent by a specific account/SMTP as default sender (the account indicated by default in the "from" field of the message). Is there a way to configure that default sender account in TB? Thanks again for the help.
I think you're missing whatever the problem is. The FROM address is not set by which smtp server you are using. I suggest a careful review of all your accounts' settings to assess your concerns.
Hi David. The problem is very simple. Let me explain using a generic situation. Suppose I have configured two account in my TB. "Account-1", wich SMTP is configured to "smtp.org1", and "account-2", wich SMTP is configured to "smtp.com2". Suppose too, I what to send all my emails using "account-2" as default. In other words: every time I creat a new email, I whant "account-2" to apears on the "from" field of the message by default. My problem is that when a create a new email, the "from" field of the message is filled with "account-1" by default. So, I have to change manually the account in the field for every email I send. I what to know if there is a way to tell TB to fill the "from" field with "account-2" as default instead of "account-1". Thanks again.
Your first post showed screenshot of smtp servers: there were two. Do you have more than these two accounts? Can you do a screenshot to post of the server setting for each account? I'm referring to the screen that has email signature, name, email id, etc. That screen shows the assigned smtp server at bottom.
Hi David. I posted the screeshot of both accounts I have configured in my TB. Becouse they are corporate accounts I can't disclosure the full email addresses, but note that one account ends with ".com" and the other one ends with ".com.br". My official account is the one that ends with ".com". So, I wish to have this one apearing in "from" field every time I create a new message. But the account that apears in "from" field is the one that ends with ".com.br". This way, I have to change the account in "from" field every time I create a new message. Thanks.
Both accounts use the same signature file.
Hi David. Yes, they did. But I ask if the use of the same signature file will produce the behavior I described in previous posts. To make sure, I created two diferents signature files (one for each account) just for test. But when I create new mails, TB still selects the wrong accout (the one ended with ".com.br") as the default sender (field "from" of the message). It looks to me that TB allways uses the older account as the default sender for new emails, as the account "...com.br" is the oldest one. Thanks.
I think I've figured out the problem you're having. Thunderbird always starts with the default account unless you have highlighted on of the other accounts prior to clicking 'write',. I had been assuming you were highlighting the other account first. I suggest setting the default to be the one you use the most, whether shown on top or not.
Hi David. Thaks again for the help. I think we're close to solve this. You understand correctly and your suspect would be wright, except for a minor detail: In my account configuration, I've redirected all the folders to "Local Folders" (or "Pastas Locais" in brazilian portuguese - see attached prints). So, the accounts itselves do not apear on the left panel of the main screen. I only see "Local Folders" and it's subfolders. In your last replay you've mentioned "Thunderbird always starts with the default account". I beleave if I could tell TB wich account is the default, my problem would be solved. Thanks.
Go to tools>accountsettings. Highlight the account you want to be default. scroll down on same page in left column until you see a button for 'Account Actions' - click that and a menu opens with 'set default' as an option. that will do it.

Hi David. Bull's eye!!! Problem solved. Thank you, very much. Have a nice day.
You're very welcome.
Hello there, thanks for your attention.
Like others here I have diverse problems with Thunderbird whilst trying to access 6 email accounts via smtp.
I have 3 problems
1. The said GMX account works generally fine. However every now and then - I get a pop-up saying there is an error in sending emails. Which normally lasts about 12 hours. I have been informed this could be because I use AVG Anti-virus system.
2. Another account google mail works fine with incoming emails but outgoing is un unusable due to a pop-up appearing requesting the password (which is already installed) with the option to use a security password - that I have not activated.
3. Furthermore at the bottom of page a pop up appears saying access was denied to a google account with ip adress.
Looking forward to any help leading to solutions, thanks in advance.
Best regards, Geoff
