Is there any way to prevent thunderbird from inserting indentation whitespace into my HTML?

the resultant HTML is sent as format=flowed and makes for a line-breaking nightmare to debug.

I'm trying to debug formatting issues with GMail and I strongly believe that the indentation + word-wrapping of the html is harming me.

currently have configured: mail.wrap_long_lines=false mailnews.wraplength=0

I can't give debug assistance, but I have mail.wrap_long_lines set to true and mailnews.wraplength=0 and have no problems, so I suggest testing with mail.wrap_long_lines to true, not false. Also, you may find it helpful to install the addon, ThunderHTMLedit, so you can easily see the HTML being created for your messages.

messing with mail.wrap_long_lines doesn't seem to affect anything. same problem.

using ThunderHTMLEdit doesn't help. Even if I remove the whitespace from each line, the email is sent indented with format=flowed.

argh, looks like this is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=822741 which is unresolved, alas.

My reasoning in proposing that addon for HTML is that it would allow you to see what HTML was being created. If you are pasting from Word, you are interfering with TB doing that. Posting from Word is problematic in TB and in many other programs that allow text insertion.

Could you post an image showing an example of your issue. In the bug report it shows images where the person was using a bullet point.

Are you copy pasting text from eg: MSWord etc ? Are you using 'Reply' which may include html inherited from the received email?

When you compose - formatting bar - what are you using in the first and second boxes - eg: Body Text and Variable width ?

I'm using the following with no issues.

  • mail.wrap_long_lines=true
  • plain_text.wrap_long_lines = true
  • mail.compose.wrap_to_window_width = true
  • mailnews.wraplength = 80
  • mailnews.display.disable_format_flowed_support =false
  • mailnews.send_plaintext_flowed =true
