When I attempt to download new mail I get the error message :

"The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop.telstra.com responded: no such message."

Based on similar archived articles I logged into webmail and completely removed ALL mails. Trash folder is empty in webmail.

Still getting the same message. Webmail has no mails yet Thunderbird is failing when "downloading message 1 of 4". Suggestions?

I completely emptied ALL webmail folders. Webmail has zero messages and that didn't help. I'll try the postmaster email. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oddly, another Telstra user has reported same issue: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1327783

Usual solution: See if this is caused by an email that was in Inbox, but got moved to a spam folder and thus causing an error. Logon to the webmail account and empty the 'Spam/Junk' folder on server.

Then in Thunderbird try the 'Get Messages'.

If still an issue, back in 'webmail' account - it is likely that one email is causing the issue... locate the last email which was downloaded successfully and delete off server. Then in Thunderbird try the 'Get Messages'.

If still an issue, back in 'webmail' account - locate the oldest email that has not been downloaded and move it into another server folder or delete it once read. Then in Thunderbird try the 'Get Messages'.

If no joy try e-mailing: [email protected] and tell then the problem.

There are many reports of this nature on Telstra Crowd Support and contacting the postmaster helped to fix at server end.
