My work is starting to require us to use Duo but when I installed it I could no longer send emails on Thunderbird on my Windows laptop. My work tech folks say "2-Factor Authentication" does not work in Thunderbird, which, if this is true, means I will have to stop using Thunderbird. Any work-arounds or will 2FA be compatible with Thunderbird soon?

There is no intention to adopt the outlook style of 2FA. It is rubbish, but then so is most 2FA. It is as good as the access to the device getting the access code. usually an unlocked mobile device.

Ok, but no work-around for Thunderbird when my work insists that we use Duo?

In most cases where 2FA is applied, the usual option is to create an app password and use it in TB in place of the normal account password. I don't see an obvious description like this on duo.com, but they may have equivalent methods, such as a secure mail key.
