How to remove images displayedwith message subject line?

I'm getting an increasing number of emails - mainly from businesses I deal with - that display a large image with the subject line of the mail when it appears in the message pane.

An example would be a music company I deal with has a picture of a guitar superimposed on the subject line.

This makes the message pane cluttered and I find it annoying.. Is there any way to prevent these displaying or better still prevent them from being downloaded?

Thank you.... I did not know where to emoji font was located or what it was called.... Based on the information given, I was able to track down this page:

which gives clear, simple instructions on how to remove the font via Terminal.
