Why do I have to wait for a message to be sent, particularly if there is a large attachment.
Having clicked the Send button, why does the message to be sent not go to the Outbox folder for delivery? Rather than the message being sent immediately and having to wait for the message to be sent completely and copied to the Sent folder, before one can continue composing a new message. Or is there a shortcut I am not aware of? Any advice would be helpful.

Hello Onno, Thanks for your prompt reply. Changing the setting to 'True' works a treat. It is a shame that this setting is of 'True' is not the default setting. Thanks for you help. Ian A
It's not enabled by default because it has issues. But generally works great - I have had it enabled for years.

Go to the menu with Alt or F10, then choose Tools > Options >Advanced > General and click Config Editor. Now search for the pref called mailnews.sendInBackground and toggle it to true. Thunderbird now sends the messages in the background and you don't have to wait for it anymore.

When you have created a message in Write, you can always click on File to choose "Send Now" or "Send Later."

Hello Wayne, Thanks for the tip. Cheers, Ian A
How do you enable "True"?
