I am trying to add further protection to my 5 devices, I currently use a master password to open Firefox browser on my Win10 notebook with now so many passwords, and having to always strengthen them, I have recently added a password manager, True Key by Intel however its a bit more time consuming to enter Firefox master password and then TrueKey password so I am considering dropping Firefox master password and also not have Firefox remember any passwords Am I doing the right thing ?

In addition I have Firefox password on my android device and have recently added True key for that device as well

Appreciate your suggestions

The Firefox Master Password isn't for "opening Firefox", it is a "Master Password" for Logins saved within Firefox. It comes into play when the user visits a website for which Firefox has the Password saved; then Firefox asks for the Master Password. But many users use a page that requires a password as their "home page"; which can confuse users into thinking that the Master Password is needed just to use Firefox.

I'm not familiar with True Key by Intel specifically, but external password managers generally don't save passwords inside Firefox - but rather to the external password manager program. The Firefox Master Password would have no effect in that case.

Thanks for reply, I was using master password for opening Firefox, under tools/options/security it is confusing as user offered 2 tick boxes, I only had "use master password" ticked

My master password was considerably stronger than all my site logins,

do you know what level of encryption Firefox used for master password ?

The reason for going to a password manager was my password list growing, they all needed to be strengthened and that Firefox would not be using encryption levels as high as AES-256 Is my reasoning correct ?

The usernames and passwords are encrypted with a Triple DES key (CBC mode) that is stored in key3.db.
