Running Windows XP SP 3.

Updated to Firefox 3.6.4 earlier this afternoon, and after doing so, the browser comes to a random halt either:

a) roughly every 15 minutes, or b) when there are more than 4 tabs open; regardless of the site. I even replicated it with 4 tabs of Mozilla forums.

Things will just fail to load, endlessly cycle, and then if I don't clear cache/settings and restart, it will freeze. I've reinstalled it twice, updated (I think) all add-ons and swept for any kind of 'ware, but nothing is fixing it.

Hello Anonymous.

You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode and select Disable all add-ons. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.

If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

I have the same problem and it is NOT related to an addon, it is related to one particular page (the tab was part of my homepage)...I started in safe mode, removed that tab from my home page and it no longer freezes on startup.

This stinks.

mcrin, can you tell me which page it is, or does the link contain confidential information? If the page is giving you trouble, even with all add-ons disabled, in safe mode, it's very important that we know which page it is, so the developers can address the problem.

Well, nothing has worked so far, and I have the same issue. More than 2 or 3 tabs open, and everything just either slows to a crawl, or forces me to restart. This afternoon I even had an issue where tabs would refuse to 'close", even though they stopped working.

Checked all add-ons and extensions-- everything is up to date, except for Java, which gves me the 1722 error, but that has been that way since 2008.

Everything was working fine before updating to Firefox 3.6.4, and now my CPU usage is going sky high; roughly 70-80% all the time.

This is exactly my issue as well. I never had any problems before Firefox 3.6.4 and all of my add-ons seem to be fine and are up-to-date but I keep crashing if I've got more than a few tabs open.

Same here. The only addon I have is download helper.

Haven't figured out what's causing it yet, but I'm getting a LOT of crashes.

@ TickedoffFFuser From your post, it's not clear whether or not you've read this post. Please do, and see if running in safe mode without add-ons shows the same issue.

@ justwantsittowork Please read my post above. I hope it helps.

@ Anonimni Don't forget that plugins and themes are also add-ons. Please read my post above.

Morbus, you don't know Jack. All that your say does not work. I tried it all, disabling all add on and themes, etc. Safe Mode as well but it just keeps locking up.

Irritated, please try creating a new (temporary) Firefox profile: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles Tell me if the new profile has the same issue.

Also, please check that you don't have any firewall/antivirus/security suite that is hampering Firefox.
