Tried to move the 2014 folder of emails to archives; some older archive folders are now split; have lost all the 2015 email folders and spam folders.
Hi, hope you can help. I usually keep all emails in folders named for each year, with sub-folders for topics. On Tue 15 Sep I tried to move the 2014 folder into the Archives, and tried to rename that folder 2002-2014. Had some error messages. Now we have lost the sorted 2015 emails and the Spam folders altogether. Can only see the unsorted 2015 emails in the inbox. Some of the folder and sub-folder names appear in grey/italics in the archives. Some archived folders have been duplicated, and each one contains only a partial list of sub-folders. Clicking on some folder names brings up an error message, e.g., "The current operation on '2002-2013' did not succeed. The mail server for account [email address] responded [TRYCREATE] failed Folder. (Archives/2002-2013) does not exist." No, I didn't know I was supposed to click the "archive" button. Have always dragged and dropped before...

What is the account type - POP or IMAP?
Can you post a screenshot of your Thunderbird folder pane with Archive subfolders visible? http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem
What is your anti-virus software?
Are you compacting folders on a regular basis or automatically?
What is the setting for Message Archives for the account? Account Settings - Copies and Folders Please provide a screenshot as well.
Did you accidentally press the 'a' key while a large number of messages was selected?
There is nothing wrong with manually moving messages into yearly folders. The archive function basically does the same thing.
Hello,
Thanks for the reply
Server Type; IMAP Mail Server Screenshot attached Anti-viral software; Kaspersky No folders manually compacted; don't know about any automatic setting Can't find setting for Message Archives No idea whether I accidentally pressed the wrong key; may have tried to move an email from one email account to another by mistake
