Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

• Remove Cookies

This will log you out of all sites you're logged in to. Press the <Alt> or <F10> key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences

Then Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. There is a button on the right side called Show Cookies.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode; Press the <Alt> or <F10> key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences

Then Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites and see if there is still a problem. Then restart.

Firefox may handle each of these a bit differently. When you find a link that doesn't work, could you test and see what results you get?

• middle-click with the mouse scroll wheel to open in a new tab
• right-click > Open Link in New Tab

For example, do you get a new tab with a page not found error, or does it load normally, or does the address bar show something incomplete, like the word javascript?

Probably unrelated, but I think the "Top Arcade Hits" extension usually is unwanted software. This could indicate you installed a bundle of undisclosed programs along with some freeware. You may want to check the following:

(1) Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs

Clicking the "Installed on" column heading is useful for finding bundled programs. Remove what seems irrelevant or useless.

(2) Firefox Add-ons page

You can review and disable, and sometimes remove, nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

• Ctrl+Shift+a
• "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

(3) Supplement your regular malware scans

If you do find a number of surprises, it might be a good idea to use some of the scanning/cleanup tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Hope this helps (if not with the Yahoo issue, then with other issues you might be experiencing).

jscher2000~ Sometimes when I click the link the page just moves either up or down a bit and doesn't go to another page or give me any error messages. If I keep going back and clicking on the link sometimes it finally works and takes me to the correct place, other times it does not. I just tested one of the links that doesn't give me an error message and tried to click the middle scroll wheel to get a new tab to open, but it just did the same thing by taking down a few inches in the site.

This is ONLY happening on Yahoo's page.

NOTE: at this time testing links for the past 10 minutes I cannot get the errors to provide an error, only the movement up or down the page without loading anything or it loads yahoo.com incorrectly - Page is mostly blank with only some text here and there.

I will work on getting rid of program you mentioned in your other message. Thank you for your help. I really don't like using IE unless I have to.

Hi Jennasea, hmm, that's strange.

I wonder whether a transparent object is in front of the link changing how it behaves. The Safe Mode test suggested by FredMcD could be helpful in checking whether that is caused by an extension.

Not sure this is relevant to Yahoo, but: If you check the back/forward history when this happens (right-click the back button), do you see a lot of unexpected entries? Some news sites silently add history as you scroll a page, as though you had accessed those articles individually, and if the links are to articles in the fake history, Firefox might not be reloading to that "page" correctly.
