Firefox Primary Password

more options

Hi, I am using Ubuntu 20.04LTS and Firefox 104.

My Firefox cleans up on every shutdown. Therefore I have to enter my primary password after every fresh startup, when I open a page that needs a stored password the first time.

I cannot exactly remember since which version, but for like the past 1 or 2 months there is a strange behavior. - Firefox Startup - I open my daily tabs - it shows me 4 Primary Password dialogues (basically 4 Tabs need the credentials)

in the past: - Firefox Startup - I open my daily tabs - it showed only 1 Primary Password dialogue

When I open Firefox and only open 1Tab with a stored credential, the dialogue shows only once, i enter my primary password and from there I can open my daily tabs without a further dialogue.

I think this is an unwanted behavior and needs to be rolled back.

Create a Primary Password to open the menu panel. Click Logins and PasswordsPasswords. Click the Firefox logins menu (three dots), then click Options. The Firefox Settings Privacy & Security panel will open to the Logins and Passwords section.

Hope This Works, Peter

Hi Peter, thank you very much for your suggestion. I think I did not mention, that I already created and use a primary password ;-) It is just the amount of dialogue windows that pop up, when I open up my daily needed tabs. I made a screenshot of what it looks like, when I start my firefox and try to open my tabs ...

In earlier versions in was only 1 prompt, now it is 4.

Thank you Rene

Hi

Is this about tabs you reopen automatically via Restore Previous Session when Firefox starts ?

You can consider to reopen/load those tabs on demand to see if that only gives one PP dialog.

  • about:config =>
    • browser.sessionstore.restore_pinned_tabs_on_demand = true
    • browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand = true

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. On the warning page, you can click "Accept the Risk and Continue"to open about:config.

Hi @cor-el, thank you for your suggestion. Actually I did not use the session restore feature, I used the "Open All in Tabs" from the Bookmarks (see Screenshot).

But I think this is a great workaround until hopefully someone restores the previous codesnippet. Because Tabs are only loaded/reloaded when I click on them, the password prompt only shows once.

Thank you
