How do I sync bookmarks from Waterfox Classic to Firefox on the same Mac?

I used to use Firefox but changed to Waterfox Classic a couple of years ago. I have now downloaded Waterfox Current but can't transfer my bookmarks and passwords to the new Waterfox. All the suggestions on the sub-Reddit group do not work because I am not sufficiently computer literate to understand them and/or they are incorrect. Syncing did nothing so I am back on Firefox but syncing here does not bring all the bookmarks from Waterfox Classic to Firefox either. As noted, I am to all intents and purposes computer illiterate plus I am in my mid-seventies with no teenagers around to solve techie problems for me. I really don't want to have to open my bookmarked sites in Firefox and them bookmark them manually, so is there an easy way to get my bookmarks and passwords from Waterfox Classic to Firefox. If so, can someone point me in the direction of an idiot's guide so I can revert to Firefox as my default browser? Thank you

What version of Firefox is this Waterfox version compatible with ? What files do you have in the profile folder ? You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can copy files like these with Firefox closed to the current profile folder to recover specific data.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • cookies.sqlite for the Cookies
  • formhistory.sqlite for saved autocomplete Form Data
  • logins.json (passwords) and key4.db (58+) or key3.db (57 and older) (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
if you only have key3.db then make sure to remove an existing key4.db
  • cert9.db (58+) or cert8.db (57 and older) for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
if you only have cert8.db then make sure to remove an existing cert9.db
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other website specific data (Site Preferences)
  • sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs (older Firefox versions used sessionstore.js)
    (see also the sessionstore-backups folder)

Thanks this worked. At least the first part, I don't understand the last bit.

The easiest option is probably to export your Waterfox bookmarks to an HTML file (the steps should be similar to the steps for Firefox, since Waterfox is based on Firefox) and then to Import Bookmarks from an HTML file into Firefox.

Hope this helps.

Thanks but this is over my head. I found a response that worked.
