Why is it that, since I installed the latest security patch on 14 March 2016, I cannot connect with my outgoing STMP server?

Hello Mozilla Volunteers,

Since installing the latest Thunderbird security patch on March 14, I have been unable to send email. I have checked my STMP settings, changed my password (at both ends), and even reinstalled Thunderbird (albeit the same version, 38.7.0). But each time I try to send an email I get "STMP server timed out."

I hope you can help.

Regards, David

My hosting company seems to have solved the STMP access problem, but I continue to get security certificate errors -- one after another after another. I asked them to look into that, as well.

Interesting... I saw some one else with such and issue here earlier. What anti virus are you using. Some like Avast use their own SSL certificates and when that goes bad everything dies. see https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues#AVAST
