When I try to open an email, I have to right click on it and then click on open in new tab, then go to the tab to view email. I have setting to open in new tab, but does not do anything if I click on it. This annoying with several emails to open.

Chosen solution

Check the double click speed setting for your mouse or touch pad. Double clicking a header in Thunderbird most certainly opens a new tab or window.

A single click shows the message in the Message Pane if turned on. F8 toggles that on and off. A double click opens in a window or tab.

The message panel toggle worked, but not the double click. I don't want to look at the emails at the bottom, I want them to open up in a new tab.

Are you double clicking them?

This is only a problem on my laptop, not my home computer. Double clicking does no good. I have attempted to check setting on the two to see what is different, but cannot find anything different.

Thank you so much for helping through this problem. I am still adjusting to the new laptop and you following up with me really solved the problem.
