Chosen solution

Changing the value of the string that I mentioned in my previous post, will change the page that loads in your new tab. The default is about:newtab, but it can be changed to whatever you want.

To change the new tab page, do the following:

  1. Type about:config into the location bar of Firefox and press enter
  2. Click the agree button on the page displayed to enter the configurations
  3. Locate the [email protected] string or search for it in the search bar on that page
  4. Double click the string to change the value
  5. Enter the URL of the website that you want to use as a new tab into the dialog box that displays
  6. Press the ok button

This should change the new tab page that will appear when you open a new tab. If the changes do not take affect, try restarting Firefox and then check again.

If you would like to use one of the Firefox default pages as a new tab page instead of a website, you can use about:newtab or about:home as the URL for the new tab.

I hope this has clarified the steps for you. If you need more clarification, please let us know.

Mozilla discontinued the new tab setting in the about:config because it was being abused by third party programs. If you would like to have the new tab setting in the about:config enabled again, I recommend using the New Tab Override (browser.newtab.url replacement) addon.

Once you download and install the addon, you will be able to set the URL of a new tab page by changing the [email protected] string in the about:config to the desired URL of the new tab page.

Is this what you are looking for? Let us know.
