Updates fail due to security policy prohibiting programs from running from Temp.

I get the following error due to local corporate security policy:

Blocked by access protection rule. Access to object C:\Users\garys\AppData\Local\Temp\MozUpdater\bgupdate\updater.exe was blocked by rule Common Standard Protection:Prevent common programs from running files from the Temp folder.

The Mozilla updater.exe file is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

It is not and should not be a temp folder.

Start your file browser. Find the file and put your mouse on it. You may have to click on another file. As you put the mouse on the file, a display may open up with information on it. You should also use your anti-virus on it.

Try to reinstall the background Mozilla maintenance service is case it isn't installed properly.

Firefox program folder:

  • maintenanceservice_installer.exe
