There is a friends on chat window on Fcebook home page that is missing. Where is it and how can I get I back?
On the home page in Facebook, on the bottom of the left hand corner there is supposed to be a friends on chat window that shows green dots and pictures of my friends that are on chat. Mine is no longer there and i was hoping that you can help me in finding it and putting it back.
Thank you
Patricia Sutcliffe

Unless one of your add-ons is blocking that feature, the most likely cause is that Facebook made an update but Firefox is still using old scripts, old style sheets, or both, or sending the server a cookie that has an old value.
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
- right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove your individual Facebook cookies.
Then try reloading the page and log in again. Does that help?
Thank you for replying back. However since I am not exactly compute literate how do I know which cookies are my facebook cookies? I don't see anything in there that indicates anything from Facebook.
In the dialog that opens, you can remove your individual Facebook cookies.
A way to see which cookies a website (domain) has stored is to click the Site Identity Button (globe or padlock) on the left end side of the location bar.
- Click the "More Information" button to open the Security tab in "Tools > Page Info"
- Click the "View Cookies" button on the Security tab in "Tools > Page Info" to open the Cookies Manager and see which cookies that domain has stored
- Select the first cookie and use the "Shift + cursor Down" key to select a block or Ctrl click a cookie to select individual cookies
- Press the "Delete" key or click "Remove Cookie" to remove the selected cookies
- Clear the search bar in the Cookie Manager to see all cookies
Hi Patricia, what is supposed to happen is when you use the "View Cookies" dialog from a facebook.com page, the search box at the top of the dialog is already set to facebook.com, so you only see your Facebook cookies.
I changed it to facebook.com in the box and saw the cookies. How do I know which cookies to delete? Do I delete them all? I also have another account on facebook abd the friends on chat window is there. How can one be there and not the other. Wouldn't my facabook cookies for one account also include the other one
As long as you know you passwords, the cookies are safe to delete.
Hi Patricia, the theory behind clearing cookies is that they may include obsolete or corrupted information. There's no way to know which one poses the problem, so it's usually best to clear them all. Facebook will set new cookies when you log back into the site.
Regarding the chat windows, I don't why the two accounts would work differently. Perhaps it is a setting within Facebook?
