I have now updated my kubuntu10.10 to 12.0 LTS, and running Firefox 15, but it now only shows 5 addresses out of 20 odd that I have visited recently when clicking the down pointer in address bar. and I no there is a way to to up this as previously I think I used the "about:config" and adjusted I think browser.urlbar.maxrichresults? but when I adjusted the 2 to 20 it made no difference . Could you please advise the correct procedure?

Note that the names of prefs are case sensitive: browser.urlbar.maxRichResults

Maybe Ubuntu is overriding that setting.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

What is the current value of the browser.urlbar.maxRichResults pref?

If that value is the default and you still get less than that then something else is wrong.

Is it still happening in Firefox Safe mode?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

You can use the Profile Manager or use the Reset button on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page to create a new profile. The Reset will move the current Firefox Profile Folder to the desktop, so you can't use the Profile Manager to revert to that profile (it is removed from the profiles.ini file that registers all profiles).

cor-el,

I cant find the Reset button(tab) on the help tab, so not sure where located?

You can only find the Reset button on the Troubleshooting Information page if you are using the default profile as set via Default=1 in the profiles.ini file.

If you do not have the reset button then either use the Profile Manager to create a new profile or use the Profile Manager to start with the current default profile to get the reset button in Firefox.

You can modify a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut and add a space and -P to the command line to start Firefox with the Profile Manager.
