On some news websites such as huffingtonpost.com, the main articles are associated with a photo. When you place your cursor on the upper right hand corner of the photo, a "Quick Read" option is shown. Clicking on that brings up a brief summary of the article. The Quick Read option appears in FF3 but does not now that I have installed FF4.

It seems to work for me, see screenshot.

Try updating to the latest version which is 4.0.1 by clicking Help | About Firefox | Check For Updates.

If the problem persists afterwards, try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Thanks Xircal. I did upgrade follow your advice to upgrade to 4.01 and the Quick Read feature does now appear.

You're welcome.

Now that I have had some time to experiment with the Quick Read function after updating from 4.0 to 4.01, I can see that it comes and goes. It is often the case that the function does not appear. Refreshing the page seems to bring it back. It's possible that this may have been the case BEFORE upgrading to 4.01 FF. Whatever, it is annoyingly erratic in a way that it is not in FF3.xxx AND, testing this with Internet Explorer 8, this function is completely stable and consistent.

Can you do the following please.

Click the orange Firefox button and go to Options | Options | Advanced. In the Network tab, Offline Storage menu, click the Clear Now button.

Then see if it makes any difference.

OK, I did that. The Quick Read was showing. Then I clicked on an article to navigate to it. It seemed to be working. Then I went to this window where I have this forum up. Then I went back to the other HuffingtonPost window and the Quick Read was not showing again. It seems to disappear if the page sits idle for awhile. Checking the IE8 window again, it remains stable; the function never disappears.

OK, I'll leave the site loaded on my own system for 20 mins or so and see if I can duplicate the problem.

I just experienced that after coming back to the main page from an article, the Quick Read came up and then immediately disappeared. So now I'm not sure about the idle factor But there is a feature of the HuffPost site that could be considered. It updates automatically and frequently (and this auto update cannot be stopped). This did not effect the Quick Read feature in FF3.xxx; but possibly it does in FF4? I don't know -- just a thought.

Yes, I see the problem now. I'm not sure what to make of it to be honest.

I suggest hanging on until one of the Moderators reviews this thread to see what they think.

To summarize.

The "Quick Read" tab is visible until the user loads another site and doesn't return to huffingtonpost.com for about 10 mins or so after which these links disappear.

Another odd thing is that the background to the smaller pictures turns yellow briefly.

Refreshing the page re-enables the "Quick Read" tabs.

EDIT: You can disable autorefresh in the Advanced menu, but I already have that disabled, so I don't think it makes any difference.

I should have used the phrase "auto refresh" rather than auto update.

I remember a while back trying to stop the auto-refresh on this site by disabling it in the browser as you have. But it does not work for this site. I researched this a bit and found threads about this; but that is off subject for this thread.

Does doing this clear the History? It looks like this was to clear the cache; but it appears I have lost all of my History after doing this.

I can't imagine how that could possibly have happened.

This reload may be intentional. There is a lot of JavaScript running on that website and it is quite possible that there is a timeout set to reload the page or do other things.
