Hi James, it's just a web page, so assuming there isn't an overlay you need to click off, you can just close the tab or navigate to a new page using the address bar, a bookmark, etc.
Maybe I didn't understand your question?
No closing the tab closes the page. the next time I start Firefox this page keeps starting and I can't find away to eliminate it. My default page also starts which is OK. But every time this ad page starts also. I know there is a place that I use to go to remove this situation. Thank You
You can check the startup setting.
- Settings -> General -> Startup: "When Firefox starts":
"Open previous windows and tabs"
"Show my homepage"
"Show a blank page"
This is the page that comes up when I start FirFox every time. Can't get rid of it.
Hi James, do you also get that page if you launch a new window using Ctrl+N?
If so:
Could you check whether that page was added to -- or completely replaced -- your regular home page? In the home page setting, if you have "Custom URLs...", look for a vertical bar character that indicates multiple home pages, for example:
https://example.com|https://mozilla.org
If you see something like that, select the vertical bar and everything to the right and delete it. Or you can change to "Firefox Home" or "Blank page" as your home page.
Does that make any difference?
Ctrl+N only brings up home page. No bar in custom URL The bad tab opens first and home tab opens second
Hmm, why does Firefox think it keeps updating??
Is this this page for the latest update: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/133.0/whatsnew/?oldversion=132.0.2 ?
Assuming so, could you take a look at the following preference:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.
More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.
(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste startup.homepage_override_url and pause while the list is filtered
(3) If the preference has the unwanted URL (with %LOCALE% and other placeholders), you can double-click/edit it to blank or use the Reset button (left arching arrow at the right end of the row) to clear it.
Does that make any difference?
Did not solve the problem. The url did not show up
