Long story short. I had to reload Ubuntu 18.05 on my machine.

I am running Thunderbird 68.10.

Before I reloaded everything, I exported all my bookmarks. I never thought about the options connected with MESSAGE FILTERS. That is were my problem is.

My primary account is a YAHOO MAIL account. I had the message filters set up to place my incoming emails from Yahoo to their proper TB folders.

After reloading twice for other reasons [choices I made when reloading Ubuntu], I couldn't understand why the email was floundering. I look and the message filters. I found they were not present. Boy do I really feel dumb.

I have one account in particular ([email protected]) that deals with my model railroading hobby. It has at least 15 folders in TB.

When I tried running TB, I got the following message:

Thunderbird The current opereation on 'Z STMFC emails' did not succeed. The mail server for account [email protected] responded: [UNAVAILABLE] UID FETCH Server error while fetching messages.

'Z STMFC emails' is the name of a folder that I created in TB. Little did I know, that it also appears in yahoo. I did not create the latter.

Any pointers or suggestions [besides jumping off a bridge - lolol] would be appreciated.

Thanks, Rich Ramik

re :Before I reloaded everything, I exported all my bookmarks. I never thought about the options connected with MESSAGE FILTERS. Not certain whether this is something weird on Ubuntu, but bookmarks is usually associated with Firefox browser and not Thunderbird.

Usually, you create a backup of your Thunderbird profile folders. If you had backup the thunderbird profile then all message filters would be automatically backed up as well. So did you actually backup the Thunderbird profile ? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird#Linux_and_Unix

My primary account is a YAHOO MAIL account. 'Z STMFC emails' is the name of a folder that I created in TB. Little did I know, that it also appears in yahoo. I did not create the latter.

If you use an IMAP mail account, then all the folders and all the emails are stored on the yahoo server. So if you create any folders in an imap account then you are creating them on the server. Imap accounts have same folders as those on the server. You subscribe to see folders. The account will automatically subscribe to show you default folders like Inbox, Sent, but have you subscribed to see all the imap folders that contain your emails?

  • Right click on imap yahoo account name in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe'.
  • click on 'Refresh' button
  • Select all the folders and subfolders that you want to see and click on 'Subscribe'.
  • click on OK

Those subscribed folders in imap account synchronise with server folders to show you what is held on the server. You could consider the imap folders as one and the same as the folders on the server.

As you are a Yahoo user and also using an IMAP mail account, I've included some info that you may find useful or become relevant at some point. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-yahoo https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization
