Hello

I have copied my Thunderbird profile from the D:\ drive on my old computer to a folder on the D:\ drive on my new computer.

I installed Thunderbird on my new computer, closed the options to set up the accounts, as advised on one of the Mozilla videos.

I then closed Thunderbird, created a new profile, linking to the xxxxxxxx.default folder on the D: drive of my new computer. Then ticked the radio box to "Use the selected profile without asking at startup".

Thunderbird has opened and all my email folders are showing. This is great because it has taken a lot of time to get this far.  :o)

However, when I click on get "Get messages", an error comes up in the bottom right of my screen stating "Could not connect to mail server imap.gmail.com The connection was refused".

This was expected because I have not provided my password anywhere to access my emails from google mail. I have tried unsuccessfully to find where I can provide my password permit this.

Please would someone kindly help me. I am using the latest version of Thunderbird &8.0 (32-bit) on Windows 10.

Many thanks

Martin

Do you normally enter password every time ? If yes, then it is likely gmail are deliberately blocking you and want you to reset the following option in your gmail account. In order to use Normal Password, you have to tell gmail to 'Use less secure apps' option. https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en

you will find gmail may do this to you every now and again whilst you use that method of connection.

gmail like people to use Connection Security: OAuth2 In Thunderbird, it is usual for people select to allow password manager to store passwords. You would need the set the incoming and outgoing servers to use 'Connection Security: OAuth2' Then restart Thunderbird. Gmail would then prompt you to enter password etc to confirm you really are you. then gmail adds a token into thunderbird where passwords are normally stored and from then onwards Thunderbird will use that token to access server.
