Hi all. I have never really got my head around setting up filters and boxes in Thunderbird to categorise emails, however, I have a marked difference between my phone and my desktop. On my phone there is a junk folder that receives a fair amount of email, email that I do not know why it is sent to junk as I have never set anything. BUT, on my desktop the same thing doesnt happen, no where can I see the emails on my desktop that end up in the junk folder on my phone!

What have I done? btw, this not a new thing been doing ti for ages just never thought to ask anyone.

Cheers Stephen

Sounds like you're using POP on one of the devices, you need to check which one. Also, the POP device could be deleting server copies after downloading them. To have a synchronized view of your mailbox on multiple devices, you should use IMAP instead of POP, on ALL those devices. What kind of phone is it, and which email client/app are you using with it? Who is your email service provider?

The default account type on phones is usually IMAP, so you can view folders other than Inbox, which is a limitation of POP accounts. The junk filtering is very likely applied by the mail provider. If you don't see the Junk folder on your desktop, it's either set up as POP, or if it's IMAP, the Junk/Spam folder isn't 'subscribed', i.e. downloaded to TB. Having the account as IMAP on all devices makes the mail synchronized across all devices, and displays all subscribed folders.

Thanks for these views guys. The device is an iphone, I am using Thunderbird on my pc but would I be right in saying the phone is configured for an exchange account, my email comes via names .co .uk, I used to have a demon account and it's never been as good since the sold on to others. Can I simply change the settings ti imap from my end without buggering it all up?

Is that what the phone says to be that account's type? You need to confirm this.

my email comes via names .co .uk, I used to have a demon account and it's never been as good since the sold on to others.

Do you mean a custom/private domain email account, e.g jondoe@example? If so, who is hosting that account/domain for you, e.g GoDaddy?

Can I simply change the settings ti imap from my end without buggering it all up?

No, you'll have to setup the account afresh for IMAP.

There seems to be a bug/misconfig in the forum software that's forbidding links, so I can't post the link to the Mozilla Support article that explains how to switch from POP to IMAP account, but you can simply use the search box on this page to find that help article.

names. co. uk are hosting my email service, they took it over from THUS who previously took it over from DEMON and through them I now have my own domain name, my old demon address is being cancelled as Vodaphone took an interest at some stage and will now not support it.

I'll have a look around and let you know how I get on.
