Did you try to use Windows in Safe Mode with Networking and try firefox again to see what it does?

This does not work to me cause the only thing I got from IT is the PIN for the user (I do not have a password on this box) .. Windows in safe mode will ask me a password (my PIN is useless @SafeMode)
Can you install software? If so, perhaps:
Clean Reinstall
This takes about 5 minutes. It's not about your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. It's not essential to uninstall Firefox, but you can if you like, saying No to any request about removing personal data.
(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox to a convenient location, either:
- Standard Release (Firefox 66): https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/
- Extended Support Release of Firefox 60: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/
(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).
If you use Microsoft Office, please change your default browser to Internet Explorer temporarily before the next step.
(C) Using Windows Explorer/My Computer (hold down the Windows key and press E to launch it), right-click > rename the program folder as follows (you might have one or both):
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox =to=> C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox =to=> C:\Program Files\OldFirefox
(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.
Any improvement at your next startup?
Thank you "jscher2000 ", clean install did not help If I install the software it completes, but it does not start.
I click FF ICON, it starts and then it goes off again
I noticed that If I search for an old html page saved on my pc and do a "right click open with FF" FF starts "and it stays on longer" but it eventually go off... :(
I was able to copy and paste from "help/troubleshoot"
Application Basics Name Firefox Version 66.0.3 Build ID 20190409155332 Update History Update Channel release User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0 OS Windows_NT 10.0
BTW Chrome has the same problem … The only thing that works is IE …. And I hate it … Like a bad mother in law
I'm beginning to suspect some external malware.
After opening Firefox, could you open a couple extra windows (Ctrl+n)? Does it seem that only the active window closes, or the windows close in sequence, or the windows close all at once?
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.
Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Ctrl+N open a second window, and then both close at same time

Note that it shouldn't be necessary nor it is recommended to run Firefox in compatibility mode. If this makes things work the possibly other software that isn't fully compatible is interfere. This could for instance be security software or malware. Make sure that all your software and system drivers are updated to the latest version and that it fully supports Windows 10.
