Is there a difference between a Firefox Sync account and a mozilla.org account?

I've been attempting to login at support.mozilla.org with my Firefox Sync account without success. Assuming I need to create separate credentials, is there a way to tie the two together?

Currently they are separate and have been since the forum was opened, long before Sync was created. Conversion of this forum logon credential database should happen next year.

Thus far in 2016 approx 5 sub-domains connected to mozilla.org have been transitioned to Firefox Accounts. Currently this Support.Mozilla.Org forum still uses a separate logon database. Sooner or later it will become part of Firefox Accounts; probably when the forum software is changed early in 2017.
