Cannot reinstall Java update after uninstalling it
I had uninstalled Java on my PC (Windows XP/SP3) because of constant problems with the plug-in container (slowness, crashing, etc.). But then I found I could not log in to an online learning platform that I needed for work without it. So I went to java.com and downloaded all three of the installers that Java recommended for my OS. These were installers for 8u101. I tried each of them, and each time I got a popup reading "Warning - Java Installer: Java 8 requires a newer version of Windows. You may continue with the installation, but in order for Java to work as intended, we recommend that you upgrade your operating system". I clicked OK, but nothing happened. When I double-clicked again on the installer, I got "Another Java installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before you can run this installer." While attempting the downloads, I closed my browser and temporarily disabled my security software. I even clicked on "Properties" and then on Advanced for each installer, and checked the box labeled Unblock, but none of these steps seem to work.

If the Windows Installer "jams" in mid-install and won't allow you to run that same installer again, you usually can clear it by shutting down and restarting Windows.
That said, it's possible that Oracle really doesn't support Java 8 on XP. I haven't researched that angle.
But i was able to install Java before. The animation played on their website. I just can't remember how I did it.
