Remote diagnosis determined that user profile corrupt. Single user administrator whose profile name was, for example, "Murf Oscar". New user profile created with name "Murf". Confirmed system was restored to health. Because associated files would be saved to the desktop in the process, and the "Murf Oscar" profile would not be used again, it was deleted.

On first opening since the restore Thunderbird opened without any past emails displaying, indeed it demanded login details to the ISP. Once these were provided, emails held by the ISP were delivered.

So position now with Thunderbird is that all emails sent and received prior to the restore, plus an extensive contact list, have been "lost". The same can be said of usernames and passwords in Firefox.

I say "lost" because believe they are not deleted but unaccessable. To this end renamed the "Murf" profile as "Murf Oscar". As this had no real effect, that is Thunderbird once again asked for the ISP login details, etc concluded that the name change was at the name display level only.

Believe the solution lies in creating a new "Murf Oscar" profile but need to understand what needs to be done to bring back all the emails of the past plus the two logons since the restore.

Will appreciate the Forum's assistance.

Cheers, Murf Oscar

one the add-on is installed create a folder in Local folders in the Thunderbird program and select it.

The add on is installed. The snip is of the only entry in C;\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\Extensions\ . Is this the import/exporttools add on?

Where are the Local folders in the Thunderbird program? No Local folder(s) at the Extension level.

What would you suggest as the file name when it is created?

With the current issue I am completly out of my comfort zone. For the many years I have been using PC's have always just turned them on and run my applications as a single user, completely oblivious to, and never interested in finding out about, User accounts,

So long as I can find my data I'm happy. The concept of libraries is foreign to me. To view my downloads, I do it through Firefox which downloads the files. Documents I view through Word and Excel. Photos I copy across on a per SD card basis to folders created to hold them on C:\.

Am confident that after this issue is resolved I will never ever have anything to do with User Accounts again.

Reading Mozilizine came across mention of "8-character.default"; interesting way to create a directory name that one can say with certainly will never be duplicated.

Incidentally we're just around the corner from each other. I'm in Sydney.

Cheers

In a round about fashion am now able to access "inbox" and "sent" folders as they were when the old profile was deleted.

Unfortunately can't say the problem was solved, but am happy to declare the case closed.

Cheers, Murf Oscar
