Everything on internet works fine - BUT despite 2 hours on the phone to BT who came up with I can't help you and hours of searching on the internet the smtp codes just aren't right and I still cant send emails ! Can anyone please advise. Very stressed So far I have Server name mail.btinternet.com port 465 connection security none authentication method password transmitted insecurely username *****@****k.co.uk@btinternet.com

BTW - I have windows 8.1 (soon to be windows 10) Any suggestions please ?

465 usually implies TLS or SSL, so I think "no security" is wrong. But thunderbird is pretty good at getting the set up for itself; you shouldn't need to be fiddling with the settings like this.
