Dear Mozila thunderbird team, I have installed TB 38.2.0 on a laptop which works fine when connected to direct internet connection but fails when I plug LAN of my office which has a internet access via proxy. When I use LAN of my office I need to enable the proxy setting at internet explorer--tools--internet options--connection--lan settings, post which my mozila browser & internet explorer gives me internet access but Thunderbird give erros as " failed to connect server"

I have also tried both option of internet connection in Thunderbird namely :"Auto detect proxy settings for this network" & "Use system proxy settings" but result from Thunderbird is same failed to connect server

Hello,

The Internet settings you refer to in Thunderbird are only valid for web pages visited from internal links in Thunderbird, e.g. from the Mal Start page or Add-ons Manager. If you use the same settings as the ones used in Firefox or any other browser, that should be OK and those pages should load.

The (literal) "Failed to connect to server <server name>" message should only be displayed when Thunderbird can’t connect to the mail server when retrieving or sending messages. Is that what you meant above, i.e. sending and receiving mail does not work? If so, please have a look at the Cannot Send Messages and Cannot receive messages articles.

Now I might be wrong on this, but think sending / receiving mail bypasses proxies and uses other ports than the ones proxies are generally intended for (web pages / port 80/443 traffic.)
