Why won't Firefox load Disqus? Other browsers do.

Since Chrome knows how to load Disqus, Firefox's designers should know how to do it as well. Why won't they? My inability follow some blogs' readers' discussions because FF won't load Disqus is the only reason I switched to Chrome; in all other respects FF is better.

Hi, Disqus loads for me, so try these steps -

Delete all Disqus cookies - Clear cookies and site data in Firefox.

Clear the cache - How to clear the Firefox cache.

This may also help - Websites don't load - troubleshoot and fix error messages.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

What do you mean by Firefox does not know how to load disqus. I can see https://disqus.com/ -> https://disqus.com/home/channels/ Try clearing the site cookies and using the cache reload shortcut key combination Ctrl+F5

I don't see why I (a non-techie) should have to do anything at all to load that program. A user of any other browser doesn't have to; the browser is designed to load it. When the problem arises, I switch to Chrome. My question was not "What should I do?" but "Why doesn't Firefox fix it?" I repeat what I said in my question: If other browsers' designers know how, FF's designers must know as well; therefore, they have chosen not to. That's the question I hope to get a reply to.

Many other ex-FF users have encountered the same problem, and one may assume that its persistence is part of the reason that lots of people have switched to other browsers.

Hi aileensk, you're right that this question has come up here several times before. For example:

The pattern in these threads is that the support volunteers ask for the URL and confirm they can see Disqus comments on the articles where the user posting the question cannot. We then work through a process of trying to figure out the reason for the difference. These steps typically involve:

  • Transient data issues, primarily:
    • Clear cache
    • Delete cookies
  • Settings issues, including:
    • Cookies blocked, including third party cookies
    • Referrer header blocked (network.http.sendRefererHeader)
  • Add-on issues with extensions
    • Try Firefox's Safe Mode to check whether an extension is the culprit
  • Other
    • Check for error messages in the Browser Console
    • Check for load issues in the Network Monitor

If you have found a page you think that Firefox cannot handle ever under any circumstances, please let us know the URL. Otherwise, we'll continue suggesting the well-trodden path of considering how your Firefox has been customized.
