So, here's the whole list of fucking problems:

javascript popup windows wouldn't popup; an image gallery without full-size popup using javascript did nothing after I clicked on it. So I'm looking around, tried some "easy to use javascript" addon; well, it wasn't; and for some reason the idiot who made it, thought it funny not to add a reset to default option in there.

Which required me to do a hard system settings reset of firefox to get javascript back.

Still no javascript popup window click functionality, but at least the websites once again look like websites are supposed to look. So then for some inexplicable reason it all of a sudden stopped all javascript and the images; and for no reason whatsoever there was a noscript plugin present. I remove it; still no javascript and images. Activate javascript in the about:config; so I got that running again. Still no images.

Would you like to no what the help page is no image loading on here? From before firefox 23 where it tells you to find the option in the standard preferences, where they are now gone. I'm pretty sure that most support pages are still stuck at pre firefox 23 info; you people might wanna update.

Would like to know how many options popup in about:config when you type in "image"? A bloody hell of a lot. Could somebody tell me which fucking option in the about:config screen I have to turn back on to get my images back!?

Since you have JavaScript working in general, the issue may be a popup blocker. You can disable Firefox's built-in popup blocker in Content options:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Content

Uncheck "Block pop-up windows"

Any difference?

Popups also can be blocked by some add-ons, particularly extensions. You can review your extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Anything security, advertising, or pop-up related on the right side that you might try configuring (Options button) or disabling?

You also could test in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

If no images load on any site, check this setting:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste perm and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If it is bolded and "user set", right-click the permissions.default.image preference and choose Reset to restore the default behavior

Try loading/reloading a page to see whether that helped.

If you have site-specific problem or garbled images, this article may be on point: Fix problems that cause images to not show. If it doesn't recognize your correct version of Firefox, try using this link with the OS/version hash tag on the end:

You can delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension. You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.

It seems the problem is with the website; I went to another gallery and the popup show up there as they should.
