Hello, today when I got home from university I opened up my Firefox browser and then as it loaded my homepage then another tab opened up with the web address http://nickpjason.github.io/html5loop/ and it keeps asking me to download and install this youtube video downloader extension which I do not want to do.

It opens up everytime I open a new window of firefox, is there anyway I can get rid of this? I thought I would ask GitHub here if there was a way to get rid of it then asking the FireFox help forums

Sorry you're having this issue.

The first thing we can do is try changing your start-page back to the default. Start by clicking the menu button in the top-right of Firefox (looks like 3 lines), then click on "Options". From the options menu, you will see the "General" menu is already selected. From this screen you can set your start page back to whatever you would like.

Once you've done that, we need to identify what may have set that are your home page. Click on the Menu button again, and then select Add-ons. Please carefully look through your installed extensions for anything that looks malicious, or for something you don't remember downloading. If there is anything there that looks out of place, go ahead and remove it. It also wouldn't hurt to run an anti-malware program like Malwarebytes at this point.

Best of luck, and hope this helps!

You do have an extension named HTML5 Loop 1.1.1 which sounds like a logical culprit. As Michael mentioned, you can disable that (and maybe remove it) on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions.

Ah thank you, the HTML5 Loop removal worked. Thank you both very much.
