I want to access site which has applet on its landing page. Currently I am using Firefox 24 version. So it is vary annoying to get security alert every time.

For earlier version of Firefox, I was able to set 'Always active' option for site which appeared in address bar with red plugin icon. But in new Firefox version I am not able to find such option. Only gray plugin icon appears with continue allowing option which do not server my purpose.

You might be able to set this using the page's Permissions tab to set site-specific permissions.

While viewing a page on the site, try any of these:

  • click the padlock or globe icon next to the URL > More Information > Permissions
  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Permissions
  • Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions

After the more general settings, there is a section for individual plugin permissions. If you allow it there, does that stick?

Note that you can inspect and manage the permissions for all domains on the about:permissions page.

Hi shilow19, what version of Java do you have? This might be different for Windows and Mac. On Windows 7, when I go to the Add-ons page, this is what I see:

Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U45 10.45.2.18
Always Activate

You can check using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins.

If you have an earlier version of Java, try the link at the top of the list: "Check to see if your plugins are up to date" to get an updated version.

The only way to get the "Always activate" Option back for the Java Plugin in Firefox is to prevent Firefox to use its internal Blocklist (the Java Plugin is marked as insecure there). The Blocklist is usually updated periodically by Firefox in background . But please be aware that if you disable the "extensions.blocklist" feature (as described in the article beneath), Firefox won't warn you anymore about potentially insecure extensions/plugins/add-ons in the future!

type about:config in the address bar and search for extensions.blocklist.enabled -> set value to false (double click does the same)

Have fun and know what you do!

Hi k4simir, usually the "Java(TM) Platform SE" plugin isn't blocked until several updates have come out.

If you need to run Java 6 instead of the current Java 7, because you depend on an old application, then you're probably right that you will have to keep approving it over and over.

However, if you are running Java 7 and getting blocked, you should check for updates. The current release is U51.

Yes you are right and I got the latest Java JDK v7.0.51 installed at my home computer and now it works and the "Always activate" option is availabe.

But sometimes you're forced use an older (or slidly out-dated) Java Version, espacially in Business environments / Companies where you are not allowed to install the latest updates by yourself. That's a quick and dirty solution for annoyed users, who know what they do, i.e. for software devolopers like me (at work I'm using the 7u45 Version and some collegues have to use the latest Java 6 version).
