I had a web page I wanted to save so I printed to file. I found it, eventually, in the Mozilla Beta directory but as a "application/octet-stream". How do I get it back, open it, use it. I need it
There do not seem to be any options on how or where files are save when you choose 'print to file' nor how to retrieve them.

Found this. Needs no installation. Please note that it is an unknown third-party software.
You can also try searching. It looks like there are different ways and software.

Have you tried using File > Open File... ??
Yes I have thanks. The only app that gives anything at all is OpenOffice that gives the headers. Easier to read than notepad. Does BJLStart give any clues? Expected to see PDF, JPEG or such within the first line to give a clue.
Have done a web search for BJLSTART and found it is something to do with the Canon printer I have, which makes sense, but the answers were for Linux not Windross. Even phoned Canon, waste of time!
Unlike in Linux, where options can be specified as PDF, SVG etc. Windows usually saves the file as a printer formatted file, usually for the printer installed on the system. You can try GSview to open it.
Installed GSView. No different to OpenOffice. Can read the first part then garbage. If the file was created for the printer, Canon, why is there no way for the printer to read the file? or am I being dense?
You can try to drag the file to the printer icon to print, though every printer may not support it.
Unfortunately not. Could not even add to queue.
I have tried quit a few web suggestions all to no avail. All give me vrtually the same output. A readable intro then the usual gumpf. Readable part pasted below.
[K ¬BJLSTART
ControlMode=Common SetTime=20120224130414 BJLEND
[K ¬BJLSTART
ControlMode=Common SetSilent=OFF BJLEND
[K ¬BJLSTART
ControlMode=Common PEdgeDetection=ON BJLEND
Thanks all for your input. Think I'll give up!
Thanks Wilfred. Used PrintFile. Worked like a treat. Now have a hard copy to loose! just wanted to read the code the page contained but at least I can read from the paper. It is a Firefox page so why couldn't firefox recreate it!
This is a good explanation of the process. Print to file converts the page to a format for a specific printer that has drivers installed on the PC. Once the file has been converted, Firefox or even another printer model may not be able to read it. In Firefox, you can use File (Alt + F) > Save Page as or right-click on a page, to save the web page in a format Firefox understands. Perhaps there may be an extension that may enable Firefox to read such a file, like the plugins Firefox uses to present the different media types. In this case the extension would have to come from the printer manufacturer.
And, there are other ways to print that file without using any extra software. Please see this. I tried this.
Well, I too learned something new. Thank you :)
