How can I change the default sort order & also change it for existing emails?
As the title asks, I'd like to know how to change the default sort order so when I add an email all its folders, and existing emails folders default to my preferred sort order/setup. This should really be a setting.
I've looked at other similar questions and one points to this link, however I'm unsure if I've done it correctly.
I'd like to change it to group, date, new on top.
Mine now looks like:
mailnews.default_news_sort_order 2 mailnews.default_news_sort_type 18 mailnews.default_news_view_flags 64 mailnews.default_sort_order 2 mailnews.default_sort_type 18 mailnews.default_view_flags 64
Is this correct?
Also is there a way I can go in the profile and change the sort order for the current folders, I'm guessing mass changing the config would be quicker/easier.

I can't be sure on the mailnews.default_view_flags to 64. I use a value of 0. Not that 64 may be wrong; it's just that I don't understand its documentation, Regardless, here are steps to fix those folders that existed prior to change: To set many *existing* folders, follow these steps: (I creates a crude video that walks through the steps at
https://davidkirk.org/SettingDefaultFolderView.mp4 that demonstrates the following steps:
First, highlight a folder that you have set to unthreaded In the Message List view, in the column header, on the far right, open the options button that shows context menu. : At the very bottom is the option: -> "Apply current view to..." -> "Folder and its children..." -> Hover over an account -> In the next menu don't select a folder. Instead select the account name itself.
Yes, I'm not exactly sure if 64 is correct and I could not find the documentation even, but alternatively the method you've kindly shown via the video too is what I used to do, but I'd like to know how to change it for the default and also via editing the file(s) in one go.
Sorry, Thunderbird sets on a folder-by-folder basis. I wish there was a simpler solution. The only way that I am aware of to avoid the issue is to set the options you mentioned prior to setting up any accounts.
