I have the same issue as: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1176616 - which hasn't been solved.

Functionally, I am in the same circumstances as that user. Everything in my Firefox is in eng-US except for the Search Suggestions, which are in my native language. That makes me furious.

That thread already has screenshots so i need not attach any.

This user on Reddit also has the same issue but found no solution: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/9zk6vs/how_to_stop_firefox_from_giving_search/

Did you try to clear the Google cookies ?

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

I tried clearing the cookies as you suggested and am on Firefox's Safe Mode as I write this. It did not work.

Plus, it's not a webpage issue, it's one with Firefox's Search Suggestions.

Hi Unknow0059, I assume you use Google?

Firefox uses this URL template to retrieve suggestions, requesting again each time you add a character:

https://www.google.com/complete/search?client=firefox&q={searchTerms}

So for example, to see what suggestions Firefox retrieves when you type fire, you can click this:

https://www.google.com/complete/search?client=firefox&q=fire

You could compare specifying US English:

https://www.google.com/complete/search?client=firefox&q=fire&hl=en-US

Any difference?

I'm in Northern California, so perhaps not surprisingly, Google returns:

["fire",["fire sonoma county","fires near me","fires in california today","fire","firefox","fire map ca","fire emblem three houses","fire california","firehouse subs","fire map"]]

The default Search Engine, which is Google.

Searching "por", as it is currently, gives me the following results: ["por",["porto seguro","portal do aluno","portugal","portal da transparencia","porto alegre","portal do empreendedor","porto de galinhas","portal","por do sol","porsche"]] Which pertain to my native language.

Using https://www.google.com/complete/search?client=firefox&q=por&hl=en-US gives me the same results.

Hmm, I get quite different results if I use the default --

["por",["porsche","porsche taycan","portland","portugal","porsche macan","portland weather","porsche 911","portable air conditioner","porsche cayenne","porsche panamera"]]

-- and Brazilian Portuguese:

["por",["portal do aluno","portal do servidor","portugal","porto rico","porto seguro","por do sol","porto de galinhas","porsche","porto alegre","porto seguro bahia"]]

https://www.google.com/complete/search?client=firefox&q=por&hl=pt-BR

If you aren't noticing a change on yours when supplying a language parameter, location might be a bigger factor, and/or there might be a redirect/override on the server side.

I don't know whether there is another parameter to try.

Well, thanks for trying to help, anyway. I tried checking in the Firefox settings and in the Mozilla account settings, but I noticed nothing related to location. For people reading this later, it's still unsolved.

You can change the language of your search engine interface (for example, the Search box and other elements) at any time. ... Language settings

   On the Custom Search home page, click the search engine you want.
   Click Setup, and then click the Basics tab.
   In the Language section, click the option you want.

There are no search engines listed because I haven't created any.

Creating one creates a custom search engine for a site, and I can only use them inside a site, which I don't have nor want to have.
