I have a Sony Vaio running Windows 8. For months now Firefox has repeatedly crashed, Adobe keeps crashing, everything has suddenly run very slow. Ive reset Firefox many times, ran Norton scans, gone through all the suggestions for making it faster and stopping the crashes, nothing seems to work. Can anyone help? I dont have the money to take it in somewhere

Upgrade to v38.0.1 -- that may reduce the frequency of crashes a lot, as v38.0 had some sort of bug according to a prompt response to the issue I filed shortly after it had been released.

If you're running the new RequestPolicy extension (the older version won't work with FF v38.x, apparently), that may also be a source of the crashing -- I had to disable RP entirely because of continued crashing with v38.0.1, and there seems to be a serious conflict with RP because FF has been quite stable since that extension was disabled.

Ive . . . . . ran Norton scans

Your System Details shows you also have McAfee. That may cause issues.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the Report ID of recent crash reports on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page (about:support).

  • Click the "All Crash Reports" button on this page to open the about:crashes page and see all crash reports.

If necessary then you can open about: pages via the location/address bar.

Your System Details show Maxiget Updater. This doesn't read well on Google.

Do you use It? I don't know these people but Google shows this which looks helpful -

Download the current full installer for your Rapport programs. Remove Rapport from your system. Reboot. Use a registry checker / cleaner. Reboot again. Do Not install Rapport at this time.

Now start Firefox. Is the problem still there?

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Also make sure that you have the latest updates of your Trusteer software.

hi FredMcD

im not sure what you have sent me in the first part of your message. I also clicked on the link to System Check and it seems to only refer to Windows 7, and im Windows 8.

I also checked for graphics driver updates previously, i seem to be up-to-date.

Im not sure what my "Rapport programs" are. Im not a professional computer person so ive no idea what these things are.

thanks Jess

Check the programs that are on your computer

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

You can try to contact Trusteer for support if you are unsure about how to update your Trusteer software.

Try to update or uninstall and reinstall Trusteer Rapport and if that doesn't help then disable/stop the program for now.

  • Start Menu > Programs > Trusteer Rapport > Stop Rapport
